Sadly, the 2008 Apple Blossom Barbecue Festival has come to an end. In spite of the weather
it was bigger and better than last year. Buoyed by our success and the great compliments we
received from the teams and judges, we're already planning our 2009 contest. If you have
any suggestions, comments or questions we would love to hear them. You can contact me at

We had several new teams and we appreciate your participation and support. We hope to see
you next year. Also there are a few more spaces before the park is completely full, so bring a
few friends with you next year.
I'd also like to congratulate our first place winners. This was the first appearance at our
contest for 4 of them: Early Bird Barbecue, Let's Kick Some Ash, Smoke On Wheels and Ribs
and Racks. And we have to mention All American Barbecue and their first place in chicken.
Rodney was a big help getting this contest started and he deserved the calls he got in front of
the hometown crowd. Thanks Rodney.
Our People's Choice "Best Butt 2008" was a big success. Congratulations Mr. Vice President
and Pellet Envy. Please wear that Best Butt designation well. I believe a well run peoples
choice category helps build public support for contests like ours, and furthers the mission of
the KCBS by exposing the public to really great barbecue. Thanks for participating.
Finally I wish to congratulate the one man crew, Fred Horstman of 4 Mile Smokin' Crew, our
Grand Champion. When I talked to Fred as he left the park he was either really tired or still in
shock. We expect you back next year to defend your title.
